Porat
Small and quiet resort of Porat, located on the west coast of Krk, is just 3 km west of Malinska. Originally a fishing village, it has become more and more of a tourist destination in recent years, which has led to the construction of several modern apartments. However, Porat still tries to keep its original image of a quiet and romantic village on the Adriatic coast.
Recreational opportunities in the area
The local coastline is full of fish, making it an ideal place for sport fishermen to enjoy a beautiful sunrise and sunset while fishing, which is sure to remain in your memories of this holiday for a long time. If you are an avid fisherman, you may be interested in the opportunity to participate in organized fishing on large fishing boats.
In recent years, more and more hiking trails have been built around Porat, which you can also use. Most of the paths lead through old oak forests, through many olive fields, but also along the coast where you can enjoy the fresh sea air to the full.
History and monuments
The area where Porat is located today was inhabited during the Roman Empire, as evidenced by the buildings and artefacts from that time. However, today’s municipality was not founded until the Venetian Republic, when the word porto (Italian for port) gave rise to the present name of Porat.
Among the preserved historical monuments, the local Franciscan monastery with the church of St. Mary Magdalene, which dates back to the 15th century, is definitely worth a visit. Inside you can see, for example, a valuable collection of paintings and works of art.

“I highly recommend it! The apartment is really nice and cosy, very close from the sea and yet it’s so quiet all around. We were there already second time.”
